Every Wednesday we’ll be spotlighting one of the fantastic advisors we have at Deacon Hoover. If you missed our debut installment last week, the spotlight was on Co-Owner and Broker of Record Ian Hoover. But let’s not let the fellas have all the fun. In honor of Women’s History Month, we’ll be focusing on the women of DHRE for the rest of the March. This week we’re highlighting Ashley Johnston!
Ashley graduated from Everest University in 2007, and has owned her own business since 2009. With a strong knowledge base in construction, Ashley has an advantage when helping her clients make the smart decisions on their dream home or investment property. So let’s get to know her a little better!
DHRE: Ashley, there’s a million professions and career paths in the world. What drew you towards real estate?
AJ: Real estate offers versatility in a work environment that I crave. There are endless opportunities in this career. You can work as little or as much as you like because essentially you work for yourself.
I feel as if real estate provides a path to financial freedom, a flexible schedule, and the personal fulfillment of helping people own their dream homes. Few careers can offer that much!
DHRE: What do you feel is the most rewarding aspect to real estate?
AJ: I gain so much satisfaction in knowing I helped people through a major time in their lives. From a new couple buying their first home together, to a bachelor/bachelorette buying a fabulous new pad, or helping a friend in embark on purchasing their very first investment property. I truly get to help people through each stage in their lives and just to see the smile or joy on their face after is priceless.
DHRE: Fill in the blank and explain your answer. If I didn’t go into real estate investing, I would probably be __________.
AJ: I’d have to say something in the medical field. I am a giver and I have a true passion for giving back. I find it very rewarding to make a difference in someone’s life. As well as the opportunity and growth is almost unlimited.
DHRE: Time to answer the question we always ask ourselves when convincing our friends and family Pittsburgh is the greatest city on the planet: Why Pittsburgh?
AJ: The “BURGH” Is a great city to live, work, and play! It’s rich in history and gives you that hometown feel. It’s affordable, the people are so friendly, has great healthcare, there is so much educational and cultural opportunities, and an unlimited number of recreational things to do with family and friends. Cant forget that we have the best sports teams! Pittsburgh is a physically beautiful place. There’s just so much to love about the city!
DHRE: Let’s see if you’re a true Pittsburgher. Do you prefer PGH or PIT?
DHRE: Everybody has a favorite quote they reference for motivation, inspiration, laughs, etc. What’s your favorite quote?
AJ: “Your best teacher is your last mistake.”
DHRE: Then I’ve had a lot of really good teachers in my life. In fact, teach me something. Ask yourself a question!
AJ: Are you waiting for your agent?
DHRE: Lesson learned. I mean…interesting question! Ashley, are you waiting for your agent?
AJ: I can’t tell you how many times I get asked this question daily. I love when I show up to a listing and sellers or other agents ask if “your agent is here with you”? After telling them I am the agent. I can tell that they feel as if they have insulted me, but truth is I take it as a compliment! I do look very young. I get the same look all the time when I say I have children as well people can’t believe it. I’ll embrace that now, because one day I won’t be so lucky. 😊 😉
